Behavioral Health

One Pediatrics is committed to delivering the most comprehensive care possible. With that in mind, we want families to know that our physicians are experienced in identifying needs for behavioral (mental/emotional) health intervention.

In recent years, pediatricians nationwide have adapted to the changing needs of their young patients. Pediatric care now requires thorough, often-nuanced attention to mental wellness in addition to physical development and treatment for childhood illnesses. Kids of any age are capable of complex emotions.  World events present new challenges to children and their caregivers alike, and academic expectations can present further obstacles for many families.

We encourage you to share any concerns you have about your child’s behavior with your physician. We will gladly schedule appointments for mental/emotional wellness, make referrals to specialists or other services when indicated, and/or manage conditions in-house when appropriate. We routinely screen adolescent patients for depression and support one-on-one conversations between teens and their doctor. We follow evidence-based health care and treatment planning for our patients while fully respecting their unique needs. Our goal is to provide care that best enables individuals and their families to live safe, supportive lives.

Evaluation

If you are concerned that your child may be struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, or other mental health concerns, the providers at One Pediatrics are here to help.  We can provide initial screening, education, treatment and support for you, your child and your family.  In addition, if your child would benefit from services we are unable to provide, we can assist in navigating the otherwise challenging process of evaluation and treatment.

Management

We recognize the challenges parents and children face when managing mental and behavioral health conditions.  Once your child is diagnosed, our providers can help develop a treatment plan.  This can include documentation and recommendations for an educational plan (504, IEP, etc), and referral to therapies (play therapy, psychology, occupational therapy, etc).  Some conditions may benefit from medication.  If your care team believes your child would benefit from medication, we can discuss risks, benefits and side effects to help you make an informed decision.  When medication is used, we will monitor for efficacy, side effects and make adjustments when needed.
